JUNETEENTH HISTORY:
Annapolis Juneteenth Parade and Festival is a celebration of African American history. On June 19, 1865, Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation. Although the Emancipation Proclamation had been issued over two years prior, the news was withheld from many enslaved Africans.
Join the Annapolis Juneteenth Parade and Festival kick-off, featuring community-based civic organizations, marching bands, dance squads, floats, and more. The parade will end at the Bates Weems Whalen Field for the festival kick-off.
The free Festival will celebrate the African American experience through history, music, culture, and the arts. Highlights include an entertainment stage featuring national and local recording artists, business marketplace, food vendors, and interactive children’s zone packed with attractions for children- WATOTO Village!
